I've got a universal case with no serial number and case markings 000.010.101D.
It's got an odd dipstick arrangement that screws into the tube. I've never seen one before.
Anyone familiar with this?

Never seen that application either.
IMO, It's a homemade dipstick tube. _________________ I have learned over the years.

Yes! Type 3 engine with a home made dipstick and tube. Nothing wrong with that as long as the marks on the stick are calibrated correctly. In an open engine Buggy... perfect! If it's in a full bodied car you want to make sure the tinwork is modified to seal around it so that the engine cooling fan does not to suck hot air and road dust up past it.
What's with the bracket on the top of the engine? I am not familiar with that. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

Apparantly it came out of a Manx, so that makes sense, easy access.
I'm going to sell the case but I had to learn about the dipstick first, just too interesting. |

No clue, another mystery.
One thought I had on this was it was an industrial engine maybe that would explain the bracket? |

I haven't messed with one for over 30 years but the bracket kinda looks like the bell-crank part of a Type 3 OEM dual carb linkage. _________________ "Just $99 down and $64 a month for 36 months buys you a brand new Volkswagen Beetle!"

It could be that. I too haven't messed with a dual car type 3 since about '73 or so. It was a '66 and we never had occasion to strip it down to the engine case. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

that thing reminds me of a dipstick tube off an old Tecumseh engine _________________ "how am i supposed to torque the rear wheel nut to 250 ft lbs??? "Â - clonebug
An interesting thing happens in forums where everyone starts parroting the same thing and "common knowledge" takes over.
