Basically stock 1600 dp. Just exhaust and dual carbs
Running vr1 10w30. Drove it yesterday and it wasn't that hot out but the oil light came on at ideal after a bit. Initially it just flickered but then it was a solid light. Reading previous forum posts said that this is fine but idk if it flickering is okay or if it bring a solid light is okay? Should I get some 10w50 for the next oil change?

No. Unless you live in the desert it's too thick. If the light does not go out with a blip of throttle you might look at connections or the switch itself then the relieve plugs. Make sure timing is right valves set and carb adjustment. I would do all that before I would go that thick on oil.

Yeah it goes away with throttle but I was just worried about it

Dirt - what is your idle rpm? Maybe raise it a little.

Idk i don't have a tach yet and I haven't put a timing light to it cause it runs so good. I guess that's just how good the kadrons are. But it's pretty low. Maybe like 800

You know it works. Just don't get it from idle with the light out, engine is not warm enough.

I had a similar experience many years ago with a :rebuilt engine in a 71 bus 1600 dual port. I first checked both relief valves to make sure they were both free and they were. I next went to the oil pump and everything looked ok the cover was not scored and the gears felt good. The pump was a south American aftermarket brand. I bought a quality replacement pump from cb performance, installed it, and it solved the flickering oil light. This may not be your problem but is something to think about and it was not all that expensive. Good luck bob

All of what bob says are good things to check on the deeper dive when I see this I usually try a different sender. The diagrams can get crap in them fail etc. under 20$ typically use a quality standard or other reputable version. Kind of easy quick issue to smoke out a simple fix sometimes.
