Is it worth filling the area underneath the rear luggage bay? If so what are most people using? |

I made a sock using a stocking and filled it with strips of half-inch thick carpet underlay. I used the same system inside the door panels and in the area under the quarter-windows, and also in the engine compartment in the side pockets where the tar boards used to be.
It made a big difference to the sound levels inside the cabin. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

I put some heavy acoustical foam in mine. Should have "socked" it.
It's turning to fine dust and I have to vacuum often as the subwoofer blows that stuff out its nooks and crannies.
That's a project for the deader of summer when I'm not going to be driving it. _________________ Volkswagen!

Originally there was a piece of pressboard / Masonite that was nailed across that opening. |

Mine has that too. The original piece was in good condition and I put it in a safe place to reinstall at the end of the project. 10 years later I couldn't find it, so I went to the hardware store and got piece of masonite and trimmed that to fit.
