1973 Karmann Ghia Sport

I notice it has been a while since anyone posted about the mysterious 1973 Karamnn Ghia Sport Edition. I am interested in seeing how many are still out there. I show my car at various shows and am always interesting in telling the story of it as the only package a Ghia was offered. Also, the fact (as I understand it) that it was an idea of VW US to have the Karmann Factory make a Ghia version of the Bug Sports edition. When VW AG found out they put a brake on the program. The cars were only built in April and May of 1973. What I have estimated is that they may be ordered a few thousand units of which maybe a few hundred were made. I have a convertible so of the (say 300 made) only 100 were convertibles (based on the production ratio of coups to convertibles). I wonder if anyone would agree with my estimation of have more accurate details. Knowing that cars get totaled, get parted out or just lay waste in a field or for that matter get repainted and the original color is gone for every. How many survivors are out there?
